Cabinet approves Public Finance Bill 2012

www.ntv.co.ke The Cabinet has signed off on the Public Financial Management Bill 2012, which provides for the establishment of a National Treasury, the body that will administer the Equalization fund.The National Treasury headed by a Cabinet Secretary, and a Principal Secretary who will be responsible for finance and the various departments that decide on key economic and financial matters. The bill paves the way for radical amendments to the manner in which the government has.

The Kenya Government will spend over 4 billion shillings to streamline the public financial management among various ministries, NTV has exclusively learnt. It is currently revamping the Integrated Financial Management Information System (IFMIS) which was initiated about ten years ago, but has so far achieved less than satisfactory results. Treasury's Permanent Secretary Joseph Kinyua says the re-engineering of the system will ensure that it will become next to impossible for officials to tamper with public funds, a practice that has led to the loss of billions of shillings from the exchequer in the past.

The best thing they can do is clean up their act at home, be a source of growth at home."Mr. Zoellick also said it was important for other big economies to deal with their own budget imbalances. "The downgrade of America from triple A didn't affect the finances today, but it may be one of those events people look back on ten years from now and say, 'Did they get the warning?'"
